14 / 9 / 2008 -- Rat Race
Greetings.
Crazy, crazy, crazy weekend. A lot was accomplished, and the partying was rather hard, but it was quite a good weekend overall.
Rather than go into the rather unexciting details of my various doings this weekend, let's take a step back and observe Project Omega from a general standpoint. The past week being Week XI, we are at the cusp of Phase I's completion. In comparison to what is to come, Phase I was extremely light on workload, not to mention more lax on scheduling than I wanted.
Still, the very fact that all goals were accomplished provides a unique perspective on just how it worked. Sure, the planning was there; the deadlines were there; hell, even the days themselves were assigned specific tasks. But I'd wager that about 25% of the tasks were not done on the assigned day. I'm not saying they were late in getting done, oh no... Fact is, of those 25%, about half were done earlier, and half done later. Which brings about a total of 87.5% of tasks done early or on time, with about 12.5% done late...but the overall deadlines were still met. I'm no math major (only a minor), but I'd say that's pretty damned good for the first 10% of a project.
Week XII will see the formalization of a lot of the documentaton produced in Phase I. Many of the documents are currently sitting in a form only slightly above that of Notepad (i.e., plain text files). Effective and efficient, yes...but readable...barely. I am quite happy with the level of progress made thus far -- certainly a decent boost to morale.
Mr. Bond, signing off.
